The website features three videos produced by the AFL-CIO and Laughing Liberally that use comedy to highlight the importance of collective bargaining to all Americans.  Social media integration played an important role in the site design, to encourage visitors to share the videos and the website.

The site also acts as a compelling and comprehensive resource on everything you need to know about collective bargaining and the latest news on the topic.  This includes a range of multimedia content, including news, editorials, reports, compelling graphs and documentary videos of real workers discussing the positive impact that collective bargaining has provided them.

Social Microfunding — New Signature Helps ioby Bring Environmental Projects to Life, Block by Block

**Update:  Check out our new post: Drupal 7 Commerce in action for ioby.org**

New Signature worked with ioby to design and build a new social microfunding web service that  connects people and money to site-based environmental projects. All of the projects funded through ioby are conceived, designed, and run by neighbors—which ensures community buy-in, long-term caretakers and daily reminders of what’s been achieved.  The website provides a five step process to empower visitors to help make a difference: (1) pick a project, (2) nurture it through funding, (3) follow the results, (4) get your hands dirty and inspire others, and (5) prepare for great things.  The optional sixth step is “rinse and repeat”.

New Signature used Drupal 7 as the platform for the ioby website.  Drupal 7 provided a powerful and flexible platform that answered ioby’s need for a robust e-commerce and collaborative social community solution.  New Signature developed the ioby Drupal 7 website to be fast, responsive and handle huge amounts of traffic.  The website uses Drupal’s rich social networking integration to make it easy for visitors to share what they have learned on ioby and build their own network of ioby donors and volunteers through their profile page.  The ioby website leverages Drupal Commerce–a professional e-commerce solution for Drupal 7.  New Signature utilized Drupal Commerce to present a simplified and streamlined process to the visitor, empowering them to easily move from project selection through checkout and payment.   New Signature further extended the Drupal platform through the use of contributed and custom modules.

New Signature also employed other web technologies and services in building the ioby website.  For example, jQuery–a fast and concise JavaScript Library–was employed by New Signature because of its lightweight footprint, CSS3 compliance and cross-browser compatibility.  New Signature also utilized the Google Maps API to provide visualization of the large number of projects interactively.

New Signature Creates State Radio Activism Website

New Signature teamed up with HeadCount, Calling all Crows, State Radio and Rogue Global Solutions to create the “Take Action for Troy Davis” activism website. The website features multiple actions that supporters can take to show their support of Troy Davis, and upon taking action, enables them to download previously-unreleased tracks from the band State Radio. The actions hook into the Salsa platform and provide supporters the ability to sign a petition on Troy’s behalf, write to their local paper about their support for Troy, or email their support to Troy directly.

The website also pulls in recent Twitter, Facebook and Google News items to show the vast support the campaign from the social networks and news organizations. In addition, the Disqus module is used to facilitate discussion on the website and to allow supporters to add their comments for the cause.

Troy Davis is currently on death row for a 1991 conviction of murdering a Georgia police officer, though for nearly two decades the case against him as fallen apart. Seven of the nine prosecution eyewitnesses who had linked Davis to the killing have unofficially recanted or contradicted part of their original trial testimony, claiming police coercion and questionable interrogation tactics. However, since none have made a formal recantation as required by law, Davis is still up for execution.

New Signature Launches サイエンス誌 (Science Magazine Japan)

New Signature has launched a redesigned Science Japan website using the the Drupal content management system for the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Science Japan is the Japanese language website for AAAS’ publications: Science Magazine, Science Signaling and Science Translational Medicine.

New Signature worked with American and Japanese stakeholders to define the requirements for the website, including strategic direction on how to engage target audiences in Japan.  We also designed an improved editorial workflow that replaced a system that was largely offline.  This new process enables the Japanese translation team to directly edit content on the website. This change improved quality of the content and simplified the process–reducing the labor required to manage content translation and allowing content to be added more quickly.  Our graphic designs and user experience experts updated the visual design and improved the visitor’s experience.  This improved user experience ensures that the important content on the site is accessible.

The new website home page now features a cross-publication content rotator, an alerts section for important news and updates, featured spots for all three publications, and an event and announcement list for content specific to the Japanese audience.  Each publication has a landing page for the current issue, as well as a large archive of historical content.  In addition, custom RSS feeds are now available for every publication’s issue and articles, and New Signature implemented a custom Google search module so that all content on the site is searchable in Japanese and results are returned inline.  (more…)
